”Live2D Chapters" launches. Together, let’s forge a new chapter in Live2D’s Story

Twenty years since its inception, Live2D has now grown beyond being merely a piece of software, continuing to expand as a new artform that gives rise to new professions, markets, and culture.

As a place where creators on the front lines of this movement can gather and connect in person, Live2D Inc. has been hosting the annual event “alive” in Tokyo since 2014.

With each edition, more and more creators from both across Japan and from overseas come together, giving the venue an overwhelming energy. Every time we feel that energy firsthand, we are reminded that this community has become a cherished commons for creators everywhere.

A frequent request we always receive is: "Please hold “alive” in our region too!" Behind those words, we sense a heartfelt wish for a place to stay connected with nearby peers even after the once-a-year festival is over.

We wanted to answer that call, and at one point we explored holding scaled-down versions of alive in various locations. But if staff from Live2D Inc., based in Tokyo, were to lead the event and then head back home the next day, could that truly create the same feeling of connection in any real sense? We continued searching for the best answer.

What we arrived at is this framework called “Live2D Chapters”.

In the Live2D Chapters initiative, creators themselves establish Live2D user groups (Chapters) in their regions or schools and host annual events (Chartered Gathering) that embody those communities. We at Live2D Inc. support these activities as a partner and sponsor.

The word "Chapter" carries the meaning of a "chapter" in a story, as well as "fellow members of a local branch" united by a shared purpose. As we reach the major milestone of our 20th anniversary, we want creators to forge a new chapter in the Live2D story that will continue to be inscribed around the world. We chose this name with the hope that you will be allies shaping the future of Live2D as an artform.

Through Chapters, a new commons will be created, in your region, or at your school. We are truly excited to see what new stories will begin from there.
